De l'art si je veux...

Is it possible to initiate children or teenagers from working class areas to modern art ? The answer can be found in the multimedia project "De l'art si je veux", by Nicolas Clauss in a spectacular and lavish way. We can observe through interactive works, brought to life by the spectators themselves, how works as difficult as those by Marcel Duchamp, Edvard Munch or Francis Bacon could inspire such lively visual and sound experiences in young converts not in the least daunted by the prestigious subject matter.

It all began with informal meetings at the Espal cultural centre and working sessions where the young people could use video cameras, digital cameras and other means of recording, providing Nicolas Clauss, an artist familar with programming, with material where, through the magic of new technology and using the spirit and style of each artist, he succeeded in intergrating the real and the imaginary: painting and photography, fixed and moving images, spoken and written word, calligraphy, editing.

The essential subject matter, from the first ideas to the various methods of exploration, was selected by the participants but the talent of the producer, the catalyst for this experiment, gave the beautiful form to these images of a new kind that cannot be categorised as painting or cinema because of their strange complexity.

Nicolas Clauss' work will be exhibited at the Espal centre next May, in association with Jean-Noël Montagné, within interactive surroundings, brought to life and directed by the visitor's own movements !
